Written by adult star Lorelei Lee and edgy author Stephen Elliot, (who also directs)”Cherry” is thick with gritty realism, insights and experiences of real people from within the adult industry.

What also makes this movie about porn worth a close look is that it has some genuine star power too. Heather Graham (“Boogie Nights”, “The Hangover”), James Franco (“Milk”, “127 Hours”), Lili Taylor (“Mystic Pizza“, “High Fidelity” and Dev Patel (“Slumdog Millionaire“) all have credited, legitimate roles. This means that as the release date approaches, you’re going to hear a lot about “Cherry”.

The story isn’t the most original, but still interesting. Angelina, (played by Ashley Hinshaw), is an 18-year-old girl with a dysfunctional family looking for a way out. One morning her boyfriend (Jonny Weston) suggests she model nude for money. After a bit of coaxing she eventually does the photo shoot, using the money to run-off with her best friend (Dev Patel) to San Francisco.

In San Francisco, while a waitress in a strip club, Angelina meets Frances (James Franco), a charismatic lawyer-type who offers to introduce her to a few friends…open up a few doors. Despite the glitz, the debauchery isn’t as ideal as it seemed and Frances the Lawyer proves to be damaged as well.

Angelina, now known as “Cherry”, and delves deeper into the San Francisco porn industry under the wing of Margaret (Heather Graham) a former performer who is now on the other side of the camera. Hard to tell if this one is a cautionary tale. The trailer certainly looks promising.

*It’s interesting to note that this isn’t Franco’s only adult film foray. He’s currently filming, “Lovelace“, playing Hugh Hefner in the story of “Deep Throat”. He and Lorelei Lee are also students at NYU’s grad school.

Case in point, Charlie Sheen. Though more a fan of his work in Platoon, Wall Street and Eight Men Out. The fun-loving star of the insipid “Two and a Half Men”, continues to raise eyebrows given his voracious affection for porn stars, drugs and bad marriages.  Some say Charlie is crying out for help. The DailyHelping would love to be his “wing man”.

A recent co-celebrant, porn thespian Kacey Jordan, recently fired off into the tweetisphere a picture of a coffee table and all the supplies necessary to help make the night something special. Included in the picture, (shown below) is Ms Jordan’s crotch. This is perhaps to give the picture perspective.

Yabba Dabba Do!

One common complaint made about X-Rated movies is that there’s little in the way of imagination or plot.  A few creative and better-financed production companies have found gold in taking familiar properties like Batman or Star Trek (which has over three parodies) and  just enough changes to avoid an obvious lawsuit.  When all is said and done, no matter how clever the script and funny the lines, this is still all about getting the cast naked and screwing.

Some cartoons seem almost destined for a porn re-boot and DailyHelping thinks you should know what’s going on in Bedrock!

Director Will Ryder and New Sensations Productions have made “The Flintstones : A XXX Parody”.  All of our favorites are there. Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty, as well as Pebbles and the aptly named, Bam Bam.

The story line is perhaps slightly more involved than the original cartoons themselves.  The hefty Fred, played by Peter O’ Tool (note the lack of an “e” at the end of his name!) has anxiety over getting older and losing his Wilma to her “old friend, Dale DaBone. Pebbles has become a young woman and is leaving the cave, Mr Slate is busy with his endless roster of new secretaries and Betty sports a new leopard ensemble with whip when taking Barney to bed.  As with all movies of this type, the characters pair off in a variety of combination’s including a little tryst between Wilma and Betty.

They built their reputation on creative, original music packaged and marketed with innovation, but also a very independent spirit.  They eventually opened up to music outside Denmark, collaborating with other independent labels.

The videos for some of  Fake Diamond’s artists are indicative of the labels willingness to think outside the box. Complicated Universal Cum is a Danish band under the “Fake Diamond” label.  The band describes their type of music as “Psychedelic / Techno / Blues”.

This is a music video to their latest song, called “I can hardly wait”.  It seems to be pretty popular.

On Tuesday, Playboy Enterprises Inc. launched a website that will be cleaned up and safe to browse.  Even conscious of the implied message that their name and logo conjure, the site will go by a more palatable name.  TheSmokingJacket.com. (More like Hef, less like the Girls Next Door)

TheSmokingJacket.com will contain no nudity instead go with  humor to reach Playboy’s target demographic, men 25 to 34 years old. They also tend to send a lot of cartoons and jokes online.

“A lot of our audience logs on (to Playboy.com) after work and we saw that we were missing a golden opportunity to reach guys when they’re online the most: when they’re sitting at their desk, not working, sending e-mails to their friends,” said Jimmy Jellinek, Playboy’s editorial director.

The site, named after one of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner’s favorite pieces of clothing (silkpajamas.com was taken), won’t include the long interviews or in-depth articles found in Playboy. Think People magazine but more fun.

The site will still tease. This is still Playboy, after all and man doesn’t live on dirty viral jokes and Axe ads alone .  There will be  some pictorials that are relatively tame by comparison to the parent online magazine Playboy.com. the Playboy archives with photographs like those from the 1983 Playmate Playoffs, in which bathing suit-clad women competed in games such as a tug-of-war. The idea that you can just forget about the site while at work is somewhat foolish as well. The large print article headers still boldy declare that they can provide you with “7 Signs You’ve Given Up On Getting Laid”.

“The ideal is to be … the go-to site for those who are bored at work,” said Matt Gibbs, the lead producer of the site.

Because “Playboy” is just the kind of word that has companies putting up firewalls to keep their workers’ minds on their jobs, the only thing in the name that suggests Playboy is behind the site are the bunny ears inside the ‘o’ in “TheSmokingJacket.”

The site will be updated continually in the hopes that men will return to it throughout the work day.

It would have been a shame to have to throw the shirt away!

A pitch for a horror movie may be something like…”Part Omen, part Jaws, part Bull Durham.”  The producer and studio will then sit back and digest the combination and see if it sounds marketable.

“It’s part Rambo, part The Sting!” A combination that sounds like money.

The Daily Helping loves a good pitch as much as the next blog, but there are certain pitches that sound too good to be true.  We think we found one that sounds pretty darn good.

“Middle Men” is an independent film that just found a home at Paramount following  lots of buzz at the recent Santa Barbara Film Festival.  What’s the pitch on “Middle Men”?  According to Variety’s Todd McCarthy, it’s “Boogie Nights” meets “Goodfellas”.

That sounds pretty good.

It has a fantastic cast.  Luke Wilson (“Royal Tenenbaums”, “Old School”), James Caan, Giovanni Ribisi and Gabriel Macht. In what is called the “true story” of  Jack Harris, a husband and father who helps re-organize struggling but potentially lucrative businesses. He goes to work on a company that launches one of the very first view for pay porn sites.  His clients (Ribisi and Macht) are geniuses who are suddenly flush with money, and up to their eyes in  women and drugs.  Harris (Wilson) must try to keep the business on the rails (not those kind of rails) and in doing so, becomes entangled with the Russian mob, a porn star, and the FBI.

Now that the movie has a distributor, a trailer has finally emerged. Take a look and see if this excites you as much as it does us.  It’s an extended trailer and we’re pleased to say, Not Safe For Work. (Look for great cameos by Kelsey Grammer (Frazier) and the great Kevin Pollack (Usual Suspects, A Few Good Men). Don’t ask when it’s going to be released because you won’t like the answer: Fall of next year.
