(Reprinted, without anyone’s permission)

(10-28) 15:54 PDT PHILADELPHIA (AP) –

A Philadelphia woman charged with offering sex for World Series tickets says she’s embarrassed about her arrest, but did nothing wrong and is still hopeful of attending a game.

“I didn’t do anything wrong, so I’m not embarrassed about my actions. I’m embarrassed about how I was arrested,” Susan Finkelstein told The Associated Press in a phone interview Wednesday, a day after meeting at a suburban bar with an undercover police officer responding to an ad on Craigslist.

Finkelstein’s lawyer said his client is merely “a nice lady overcome with Phillies fever.”

She might have dropped double entendres in her Craigslist ad but never explicitly offered sex, her lawyer William J. Brennan said.

The 43-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate student wanted to take her husband to a game between her beloved Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees. The self-described “buxom blonde” said she was simply trying to score tickets online, as she had in the past.

Over a few beers at a suburban bar, she told a police officer she needed two tickets, one for herself and one for her husband. No price had been discussed, and Finkelstein and her lawyer stopped short of recounting specifics of what was said before several officers sitting at a nearby table came to arrest her.

Brennan hopes to get the misdemeanor charge of promoting prostitution dismissed.

“If somebody read into that posting a sexual connotation, that’s on them. There’s no overt sexual reference,” Brennan said.

Finkelstein told WPVI-TV she was looking to get a deal on tickets.

“I was hoping to get cheap tickets,” she said, “maybe meet someone, and talk, and bat my eyelashes and maybe get some tickets.”

Finkelstein faces a preliminary hearing in Bucks County on Dec. 3. On the bright side, she’s been offered a pair of tickets to a weekend game in Philadelphia, courtesy of a radio station and car dealer.

“It definitely wasn’t worth all this … turmoil and anxiety,” she told the AP with her lawyer and husband, 56-year-old John LaVoy, on the line. “Hopefully, the silver lining is I do get to see the game.”

She is not worried about the notoriety that might follow her to the stadium in the wake of national news coverage of her arrest.

“I think most people will be focused on the game,” Finkelstein said.

Daily Helping loves baseball and acknowledges that a good number of our readers residing outside of the United States might consider the game a complicated, complete waste of time. It’s to those readers that we beg your indulgence as this story transcends the game and is so remarkable that it must be shared.

The Daily Helping also loves Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. It’s not often she breaks from the hard news to touch on a story about the Seattle Mariners, but as mentioned, this is kinda special. Please take a look at this clip, as Ms. Maddow shares the tale.

Columbia Studios took a look at the recent script treatment for the widely anticipated baseball movie called, Moneyball. The studio hated the script so much that filming of the movie, which was supposed to start this Monday in Phoenix has been stopped. Adapted from Michael Lewis‘ very popular book about building and running a contemporary baseball team, the script is by Steve Zaillian (American Gangster, Schindler’s List) and director/writer Steven Soderbergh. It’s apparently changed so much since getting that initial green light, that Columbia has given Soderbergh and Brad Pitt, the A-list, attached star and fan of the book; the weekend to find a new home for the movie (either with Paramount or Warner Brothers).

The movie, starring Brad Pitt, Demetri Martin, and a roster of genuine ball players isn’t exactly a traditional baseball storyline. Variety has reported that if they can’t find a studio who will take over then it’s likely Soderbergh will be dropped and that may in turn send Pitt packing. If that’s the case, Moneyball will head to the showers.

If you’re someone who watches either Lost, Heroes or both, do you actually understand what the hell is going on? These are two shows that were very popular, but to this casual observer it looks like they’re leaving their viewers completely baffled with plotlines that make absolutely no sense at all. Says one character on the aptly named Lost to another, “I’d explain it to you, but you would only get confused.”

Light a candle for Brian Austin Green. The former 90210 star has been engaged to one of the more photographed and lusted-after actresses in the land, Megan Fox ( those Transformer movies). Though Green is a regular on Fox’s Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, he wasn’t drawing anything near the attention of his fiance’. Celebrity break-ups happen almost daily, but few were as widely anticipated by the celebrity gossip hounds as this one. They had been together for over five years but the past few months have been building to yesterday’s mutual press release. Apparently Ms Fox is a tattoo enthusiast and will have to see about having Mr. Green “removed” from somewhere on her body.

The guy who directed the Oscar winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, starring former Vice President Al Gore has been signed to helm the revival of Melrose Place when it starts next fall on the WB. Read that one more time and please try not to shake your head.

Exhibition baseball has begun in the catcus and grapefruit leagues. This is also when the World Baseball Classic comes together, with big league players deciding whether they 1) want to stay and train with their team, 2) play for the US team, 3) play for a team from the country their Grandma came from.

The hype for the Watchman may actually work against the movie’s box office success. It doesn’t help that it’s “R” rated or that the creator Alan Moore has disassociated himself from the project.

The 31 year old, Bradley has shown flashes of brilliance since coming to the big leagues nine years ago. The Cubs will be his seventh team over that time and the reason has been more about the fellow’s temperament than talent.

Last year was a decent year and Bradley parlayed that into a three year, thirty-million dollar contract. By all appearances the attitude seems to have changed for the better and the Cubs are banking on having a productive left-handed bat in a predominantly right-swinging team.

The Cubs had a terrific team last year. Things happened on the field that never happened before. It looked as if the World Series drought was finally about to end. Unfortunately the playoffs put the Cubs on prime time so they could choke in front of a larger audience. It’s not worth crying about it all here and now. Let’s just wish Milton Bradley a productive, drama-free year and see if he’s the proverbial “missing piece”.
